JAAI National Congress
The JAAI National Congress will be held in Patna, Bihar from 4th February 2010 to 6the February 2010. The hosts for the Congress are St. Xavier's (Patna) Alumini Association (SXAA)
The theme for the Congress is "Public - Private Partnership for better Education"
The public-private partnership model has emerged as the favoured model of project execution in India, especially in infrastructure, health and education. There are economic imperatives for public and private resource management. The ramification of such a paradigm of economic growth and development that has had limited success with certain projects, has on the other hand, opened up issues relating to asymmetry of access, equity and efficiency and evidence of further marginalization of the poor. The new 'Right to Education' Act though mandates quality school education, also has burgeoning claim on the state's finances. The mushrooming of private educational facilities in the recent years reflects the ever-increasing demand for educational services on one hand, and the state’s inability to provide quality education on the other. Under the given circumstance, is public-private-partnership in education the most viable option in front of us to revitalize and rejuvenate our school education and higher education system?

Date and Place of the Congress-
The Congress will be held in the campus of the San Ignacio School in Medellin. Please enter: www.sanignacio.edu.co On Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 the Pre-congress for the youth will be held. The Congress will be from August 14 to 18.
Theme of the Congress-
Ignatian Leadership with Social Responsibility. “We were educated, let’s educate”.
We believe that in this theme we involve Social Responsibility, one topic of actual discussion in the world, with the Leadership of our Alumni/ae that comes from the education received with the Jesuits following the Ignatian spirit.
Congress Design-
We are planning to organize the seventh WUJA Congress in a similar way as previous Congresses. We will have four or five major presentations by internationally renowned speakers and then group discussions to come at the end with resolutions that comes from the active participation of the Alumni/ae.
We expect Father General to be the first speaker. We are in the process of inviting him to attend at the beginning of the Congress.
We need the input from the WUJA Council members to offer names of candidates to be speakers at the Congress. We would appreciate your contribution.
We are planning to have short presentations of the different delegations attending the Congress so they can let everyone know their activities, specially their involvement with the less fortunate of their communities.
We are also planning to have a “fair” in which every delegation could display photos, brochures and information of their country and their activities. We expect the Pedro Arrupe Foundation to have a nice boot to show that it is the “Social Arm” of the WUJA.
Regarding the Pre-.Congress for the youth we don’t have a concrete idea at the moment, but we will work on it. Ideas from the Council are welcomed.
We are also planning tours for the participants in Medellin and its surroundings. There will also be a social program for the Alumni/ae that will be put in place latter.
Presentation topics-
We are, at this moment, thinking on the possible topics for the five speakers. Some rough ideas at this stage are:
- The quality of the Jesuit (Ignatian) education in the XXI Century and its Social focus for tomorrow’s alumni/ae
- The Leadership of the Latin Alumni/ae and their role in the continent, the continent with the highest differences between the rich and the poor.
- What is the meaning of Social Responsibility for the Alumni/ae and their enterprises. What should be our commitment?
- Should the Alumni/ae be involved in politics as our Social Responsibility or should we be in a comfortable line and let politics for the incompetent.
